Rajma Masala is a popular North Indian curry prepared with red kidney beans. This is one of the popular and common dishes from the Punjabi cuisine. Rajma Masala is spicy, aromatic and flavorful with thick delicious gravy. It is usually served with rice or chapati.
1 cup Kidney Beans,soaked overnight
2 medium onions,finely chopped
3-4 medium tomatoes,pureed
4 tablespoon oil
2 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
2 tablespoon yogurt
2 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
salt to taste
chopped coriander for garnishing
Pressure cook kidney beans with 3 cups of water. Add salt and turmeric to the water and cook it under pressure for 4 whistles.
Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds to it.
When cumin seeds crackle,add onions to it and saute till light brown. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2 mins.
Add coriander powder, cumin powder and red chilli powder and mix well. Add tomato puree and mix again. Cook it well for 7 mins.
Add yogurt to the masala,saute for 1-2 mins. Add kidney beans and mix well. Add salt to taste and stir to mix. Mash the beans a bit and stir again.
Cook for 15 minutes.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or chapati.
