Palak Paneer (Spinach Curry with cottage cheese)


Palak paneer is one of the most popular dishes in north india, specially in punjab. It is a combination of two beautiful things spinach and paneer. To make it more rich, some people add cream to it.

Palak Paneer

Serves 2-3


260 grams spinach/ palak

200 gram paneer/ cottage cheese

1 onion, pureed

3 -4 tomatoes, pureed

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

2 tablespoon yogurt

1 tablespoon gram flour/besan/ chickpea flour

2 tablespoon oil

salt to taste

1/2 teaspoon chilli powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon cumin powder

1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

1/2 inch cinnamon stick

1 dry red chilli


Wash spinach thoroughly in running water. Saute it in 1 tablespoon of oil,add salt. In 2-3 mins it will shrink down. Puree half of the spinach.


In a pan heat oil,add cumin seeds,cinnamon stick,dry red chilli. Saute for 1min.

Now add onion paste,saute till light brown,add ginger-garlic paste. cook for 1-2 mins.

Add tomato puree and cook till oil separates. In the meantime mix yogurt and chickpea flour in a bowl.

Add all the spices and the yogurt. Cook for few mins. Click on the images to get a bigger view.


Now add spinach to the paste. Cook for few mins. Cut paneer into cubes.

Add paneer pieces and cook for 1-2 mins.


Your palak paneer is ready,serve it hot with rice, chapati or naan.
