Aloo Tamatar Matar( Potatoes in tomato gravy)


Aloo Tamatar is a simple,quick and comforting food. It is full of flavours. I learnt this dish from my mom. You can have it with rice or chapati.


Aloo Tamatar Matar 

Serves 2-3


1 boiled potato

1/2 cup green peas

3 tomatoes, purred

1 tablespoon coriander powder

1 tablespoon yogurt

1/2 teaspoon chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

2 tablespoon oil

salt to taste

coriander for garnishing


Wash the potatoes,pressure cook the potatoes with salt until soft. Peel them and break into rough pieces. Heat oil in a pan,add cumin seeds,saute for 1 min. Add coriander powder,turmeric, chilli powder. Don’t let the spices burn.


Blend tomatoes in a blender and add to the spices. Cook for few mins,add yogurt. Cook for few more mins,add boiled potatoes, peas and some water. Add salt and check the consistency of gravy you want.


Aloo Tamatar is ready. Garnish with coriander. Serve hot with rice or chapati.
