Chole masala is a popular punjabi dish. It is a chickpea dish cooked in spicy onion-tomato gravy. Chole masala is very popular in our house. It is mainly eaten with batura’s, pooris or rice. Chole bature is the most sorted dish in india.
1 1/2 cup chickpea, soaked overnight and boiled until soft
1-2 onion, chopped
1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
2 tablespoon chole masala
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
2 green chilli chopped
2 green cardamon
1 black cardamon
1/2 inch cinnamon stick
salt to taste
Heat oil in a pan,add bayleaf, green & black cardamon, cloves, cinnamon stick and cumin seeds.
Saute for 1 min, add chopped onion,cook till until light brown. Add ginger-garlic paste.
Now add chopped tomatoes and green chillies,cook for few minutes until oil separates.
Reduce heat and add chole masala, turmeric and red chilli powder. Mix and cook well for 1 min.
Add 2-3 cups of water and chickpeas. Boil it and then simmer for 15-20 mins.
If you want thicker consistency, cook it on a medium heat.
Serve hot with batura’s, poori or rice.
