Urad dal is a very healthy and easy recipe. It can be given to kids in lunch as it has got loads of protein. I still love to eat this dal.
Seasoned Urad dal
1/2 cup urad dal (black gram split)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
salt to taste
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon ghee/clarified butter
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 onion chopped
2 tablespoon tomato puree
1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
pinch of asafeotida/hing
coriander for garnishing
Wash dal. Add dal and water to the pressure cooker with salt and turmeric or boil till soft.
Cook till one whistle. Allow the steam to escape on its own.
We don’t want the dal to be mashed up.
Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds, asafeotida/hing. saute for 1 min.
Now add chopped onion,cook till light brown. Add ginger garlic paste.
Add tomato puree and all the spices.
Add the cooked dal,stir gently. Be careful not to mash the dal. garnish with coriander.
Serve hot with chapati.
