Masoor Dal (Brown Lentil Dal)


Masoor dal is the most common dal used in every home of india. It goes well with rice and chapatis. This is my favourite dal with rice. Masoor dal is easy to make.


Masoor Dal

Serve 4


1 cup masoor dal, washed and boiled till soft

1 onion,sliced

2 tomatoes chopped

1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

2 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1/2 teaspoon cumin powder

salt to taste

1 tablespoon oil

coriander for garnishing


Heat oil in a non stick pan, add cumin seeds, saute for 1 min.

Add onions, saute till light brown. Now add ginger garlic paste.


Add chopped tomatoes,cook till soft. Add all the spice powders and cook till oil separates.

Add cooked dal and 2 cup of water & salt. You can adjust the consistency according to your taste.


Cook for 10 mins on medium heat.

Serve hot with rice or chapatis.
