Lauki wadi ki sabzi (Bottle gourd with ground lentils dumplings)


Lauki or bottle gourd is widely cooked in many parts of India. It can also be made as a dessert. Lauki is considered to be full of medicinal properties. It’s very light on your stomach. Most children don’t like this veggie but if you make it in an attractive way, they will definitely like it.


Lauki wadi ki sabzi

Serves 2


1 medium lauki/ dhudi/ ghiya/ bottle gourd, peeled and chopped (soak them in water otherwise they will turn black in colour)

1 tablespoon ghee

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 punjabi wadi broken into small pieces

1 tablespoon tomato puree

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

salt to taste

coriander for garnishing


Heat ghee in a pressure cooker.

Add cumin seeds and punjabi wadi. Cook wadi till they are slightly golden in colour.

Add turmeric, coriander and chilli powder.

Saute for 1 min. Add tomato puree.

Now add chopped bottle gourd/ lauki with some salt.

Mix it well. Add very little water.

Pressure cook for 1 whistle. Serve hot with chapati.
